The Socialist Republic of Vietnam was a country located in Southeast Asia.

Homefront timeline[]

Vietnam had went through prolonged warfare in its history. Having been occupied by China, France and Japan, Vietnam declared its independence in 1945 and later separated into North and South Vietnam. After over two brutal decades of the Vietnam War, the communist North Vietnamese won the war and reunified the nation in 1975.

Sometime after 2021[1], Vietnam had joined the Greater Korean Republic. Despite sharing similar political ideologies with Korea, many Vietnamese opposed the annexation of their country and formed a resistance movement against the GKR.[2] After the GKR invaded the United States, in a twist of irony, some Vietnamese resistance fighters traveled to America and helped the American resistance effort. Among these Vietnamese resistance fighters was Nguyen Huu Giap, the grandnephew of the Viet Cong general, Vo Nguyen Giap.

Homefront: The Revolution timeline[]

When the Vietnam War began in 1954, the United States government supported South Vietnam against communist North Vietnam and first deployed their military in Vietnam in 1959.[3] For over two decades, the Vietnam War became too costly for both sides in terms of lives lost and financial costs. By 1968, the U.S. deployed more than 500,000 troops to Vietnam.[3] However, due to intense fighting against the North Vietnamese, the American public grew to oppose U.S. involvement in the war. Ultimately in 1973, U.S. forces were withdrawn from Vietnam. Approximately 58,000 American lives were killed and the myth of American invincibility was shattered at home and abroad.[3] The Vietnam War was one of several causes that led to America's decline as a superpower.
