Under pressure from Seoul, the United States Military will begin its withdrawal from South
Korea
starting this month, a Defense Department spokesman said to the press earlier today.
"The United States and South Korea have a long standing commitment to maintaining a
stable balance of power in their region," the official said, "and our commitment to that peace
and to the strength of the North Korean government is not wavering." Although critics
maintain that this is in response to the wave of nationalism that is sweeping the Korean
peninsula following the groundbreaking peace talks initiated by Kim Jong-un, officials
maintain that the withdrawal is part of a series of planned, gradual draw downs as the US
military re-scopes its scale and focus. US forces are expected to be completely withdrawn
from the area within five years.
