KPA occupation authorities in Colorado were known to use UCAVs to strike bunched up groups of resistance fighters and civilians. Later, during the Battle of San Francisco in 2027, the American forces storming the Golden Gate Bridge called on UCAV support to eliminate KPA infantry and armored vehicles that were making a determined counterattack.
The United States plans to acquire thousands UCAVs over the next few decades. It is possible that the economic crisis did not impact the production of UCAVs because the current administration assured that budget cuts will not be made to the program. The KPA use Shenyang J-5 drones which are Chinese derivatives of the Reaper.
The MQ-9 Reaper is powered by a 950 horsepower turboprop engine and cruises at over three hundred miles per hour. Besides carrying advanced high powered cameras, it is also armed with AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, GBU-12 Paveway II laser-guided bombs, GU-38 JDAMS, and AIM-92 Stinger missiles. This makes the Reaper not only an excellent scout, but a drone capable of airstrikes, bombing runs, and even air to air combat.
Despite the advanced capabilities of UCAVs, the Greater Korean Republic was able to exploit their critical flaws. After fifteen years of military downsizing and ineffective restructuring, a large portion of the drasticly reduced United States Armed Forces was comprised of drones. UCAVs and other unmanned weapons were rendered useless due to the EMP attack, leaving the country open to the subsequent invasion. The KPA then began to confiscate and repair American drones for its own purposes.
A UCAV is featured in the mission Golden Gate, used by Robert Jacobs to eliminate KPA armoured vehicles and transport vehicles. The achievment Soft Targets is obtainable by destroying every foot-soldier on the bridge with it.
The UCAV is used for nearly any form of airstrike or CAS (Close Air Support). It is responsible for the deployment of Hellstrike Missiles, White Phosporous Bombs, Cluster Bombs and UAV Radar but it will be announced upon arrival.
Its window of exposure is very tight as it only needs to drop its payload before flying off. During so, MQ-60 AT Rhinos, SAMs from LAV-25s and helicopters can attack them and can be destroyed before the drone's operator can actually deploy the weapon.
