Korean Special Forces have been participating in operations in northern Iraq, working side-
by-side with the Iranian Coalition to help restore order. In Farah province, Koreans detained
a group of suspected insurgents based on information provided by the ISS. The force was
able to locate a cache of mortar shells and a large quantity of bomb making components.

Using American-designed V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, Iranian and Korean forces captured
two Iraqi insurgent commanders. As the aircraft approached the target compound, the two
men attempted to escape on foot but were captured without the use of violence.

Koreans forces also conducted several precision air strike operations, targeting an arms
dealer who was supplying the insurgency with rockets and bomb-making materials. After
careful planning to minimize collateral damages, Korean Special Operatives called the air
strikes on a series of targets. The Korean military uses the Shenyang J-5 unmanned
aerial vehicle to deliver airstrikes, which is a copy of the American MQ-9 Reaper.

Trivia[]

  • The Shenyang J-5 is actually a Chinese fighter that was retired in 1992. There is a Chinese copy of the MQ-9 Reaper, but it is called the Wing Loong (翼龙-1; lit. Pterodactyl-1). Neither North Korea nor South Korea currently operate the MQ-9 or any of its derivatives.
