Though the consumer market is faltering, the government and military of the United States
are still massive consumers of digital electronic parts. Korea has overtaken all other nations
as the number one supplier of enterprise- and military-grade electronics, providing
everything from rack mounted switching systems for cell phones networks to guidance
systems for unmanned aerial vehicles.
"Korean microprocessors companies offer a suite of services at a one-stop shop," said
Raytheon executive Tina Evola. "We subcontracted everything from design to prototyping to
fabrication. The cost is unbeatable." Many contractors are now acting only as middlemen in
the process, taking their cut and passing on the real work to the Korean subcontractors.
