- "Yesterday afternoon, KPA authorities invaded the town of Montrose, Colorado. Their goal, in the words of the enemy, was "To neutralize high value citizen targets." But, this was not a measured response to American insurgency. This was innocent blood running down on Main Street. Your families and friends shot down like animals. One of the Montrose Resistance cells reportedly escaped after a brutal firefight in a nearby neighborhood. We can only hope that these freedom fighters made it to one of their safe zones, somewhere in the sea of abandoned suburbs. But, whatever that fate, we will fight on. Don't believe the lies of Korean-controlled media. We are the channel of truth and this is the Voice of Freedom."
- ―The Voice of Freedom
"Freedom" is the second chapter in Homefront.
Description[]
After the airstrike on the cul-de-sac, you were carried to your new home: a self-sustaining community hidden in the suburbs. Your next mission is to steal tracking beacons from the nearby labor camp, but there are things inside that can't be unseen.
Plot[]
Robert Jacobs wakes up in a bed and is greeted by Boone, who explains to him that he is safe at the Resistance's hideout, the Oasis. Boone then gives Jacobs a tour of the hidden community before Connor meets up with them and impatiently urging that they must proceed on their mission. The Resistance must retrieve tracking beacons that are integral for the San Francisco mission as they are to tag KPA fuel tankers before they leave Montrose. Then, the Resistance will reacquisition a helicopter to chase after the tankers and take them to American forces. It is also why Jacobs, a experienced helicopter pilot, is needed in this mission. After Jacobs explores the Oasis, he, Boone and Connor departs the refuge via tunnel and reunite with Hopper.
They find a sentry tower guarding the area. Robert must destroy the sentry gun in order for the team to proceed. After fighting KPA patrols, the group head to the Montrose Elementary School where they meet up with Rianna, who has the van and mortar delivered by the Gunnison cell. Rianna is displeased to learn that the mortar rounds are white phosphorus, which was arranged by Connor. Just as she and Connor are about to argue, Boone collapses due to the wounds he sustained from the sentry gun. Rianna takes Boone back to the Oasis while leaving Jacobs, Connor, and Hopper to meet up with Arnie, who knows the beacons' locations, at the labor camp.
Under Connor's direction, the Resistance battle KPA soldiers guarding the camp's entrance in order to draw out the rest out of the camp while the Resistance sneak into the camp through a supply tunnel. Once inside, they dispose their weapons (except their sidearm) inside a trash bin in order to keep a low profile inside the camp. They begin asking the prisoners for Arnie's location and as well witnessing the camp's poor living conditions; in which Connor dryly comments as the "Korean vision of America." They eventually find Arnie, who guides them to the Administrative Building where the beacons are located. Arnie is cooperating with the Resistance in exchange for helping him in getting his family out of the camp.
As they walk through the turnstile to the Administrative Building, Hopper noticed the lack of security in which Arnie reassures that the guards left due to the Resistance's actions from earlier. But Hopper's concerns are validated as they had walked into a trap planted by Arnie; the KPA had offered Arnie a better deal. But the Resistance overpowers their guards and Arnie is killed. The team then fights their way through the Administrative building, where they retrieve the beacons.
They then make their escape by cutting through a baseball field. To their horror, the Resistance discovers the KPA had converted the baseball field into a mass grave. Connor is consumed by rage and proceed to impulsively open fire on the field, alerting KPA troops to their presence. Jacobs and Hopper are forced to eliminate the KPA troops and the sentry towers guarding the field. After dealing with the KPA, the three takes a moment to express their shocked disgust over the grave until they noticed a trio of KPA helicopters coming to the field. Connor orders his teammates to hide in the grave. After the helicopters landed, KPA troops led by Colonel Jeong investigate the grave. Suspecting correctly the Resistance fighters are hiding in the mass grave, Jeong orders his men to open fire on the grave. But the team survives the shooting. Jeong and his men soon departs. Connor then radios Rianna that they would be late to rendezvous back at the school.

Trivia[]
- A map of the United States can be found in Boone's office, showing the drastic changes the country has gone through. In the occupied area, Oregon and Washington state are now the Federation of Oregon and Federation of Washington. A "Radiation Zone" is split down the Mississippi River.
- There is a timing discrepancy from the player's arrival and leaving from Oasis, in which in Oasis it is set in the morning while upon leaving with Conner, Hopper, and Boone it is nighttime.
- At the labor camp, one of the inmates says: "You wanna talk to El Rey? That's cool." This is a line and reference to Deus Ex.
- If the player talks to 'El Rey', he will claim that the supply tunnel that the player used to get into the labor camp was his.
- In the Administrative Building, there is a propaganda poster referring to Kim Jong-il as the 'Great Leader'.
- The part where the player, Connor, and Hopper jump into the mass grave to hide from the KPA is a reference to the movie Behind Enemy Lines, where the protagonist Christ Burnett also hides in a mass grave site from enemy soldiers.
- Refusing to drop down in the mass grave will cause Jacobs to be gunned down by the KPA helicopters.
- It is possible to climb outside the map by using the handrails and roof of the left-hand climbing frame at the school to jump onto the wall nearby and moving along it. Doing so will reveal that all the suburbs around the school have been deleted; only the Wall sections, ground plane and any uncollected intels will be found, along with a sunken hole where the tunnel from Oasis was. From this it can be seen that the tunnel is used to hide loading a completely new map, as the Oasis area is no longer present.
