The CDC issued a no-travel warning for Minnesota and Ohio today as cases of the highly
pathogenic H5N1 strain of an avian influenza were identified in St. Paul and Akron. With most
of the Eastern United States under martial law, travel is already restricted.
Dubbed the "Knoxville Cough" for its suspected origins in Tennessee, and regarded initially
as simply a more virulent strain of the annual influenza, with nearly 100,000 deaths
worldwide the disease has now officially been labeled a pandemic by the World Health
Organization.
Citizens are ordered to remain in their homes if possible and travel only if necessitated by
an emergency. Citizens in the affected area have also been instructed to listen to 1700 AM
or 101.9 FM for ongoing emergency broadcasts.
